ABOUT THE SHOW:
A chain link fence separates the viewer from the view as the eminently habitable becomes ultimately uninhabitable in The Nest Egg, a video / sound / painting / performance experience brought to the Bemis Underground by curators Bryce Speed and Eric Lopez-Wilson.

The familiar trappings of a suburban home speak to contemporary attitudes about domesticity and an increasingly heightened awareness of our surroundings, our sense of “place.”  Is it possible that, upon closer examination, the common and comfortable are revealed to be the cloying and cryptic?  A frozen-in-time-time pastiche of images, objects, movements and sounds force the viewer to confront notions of time, memory and the very idea of how we define “habitable.”

Bryce Speed, a former resident at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, NE, earned a BFA in painting and drawing at the University of Mississippi and a MFA in the same disciplines at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.  He currently teaches at both the University of Nebraska at Omaha and at Metropolitan Community College, also in Omaha.

Eric Lopez-Wilson, also a former resident at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, NE, is a 2006 BFA graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA.  Most recently, Lopez has concentrated on translating the experience of painting by animating the same concepts and emotions in performance pieces.
